Fresh year, fresh energy

OK, the largely miserable year that was 2008 has been cut & pasted into the history books, thank Jeebus.

Let's renew the energy in this blog. You guys/gals want fresh topics, suggest them!

My yoga teacher passed around a little copper pot this evening asking each of us in the class to withdraw a slip of paper. On these slips were written a short wisdoms.

Mine was, "When the compulsive striving away from the now ceases, the joy of Being flows into everything you do. The moment your attention turns to the Now, you feel a presence, a stillness, a peace."

The reason for this is that these forums are regularly scanned by software robots gathering email addresses to add to spam email rolls. (I realize that about twenty years ago a statement like "software robots scanning" would get you tossed into a looney bin.)

But it's a real issue now.

Let's ramp up the communication, there was a meet in Missoula on Tuesday. You could have been there.

This evening's task for the forum is to list the nicknames of some of Montana's most famous caregivers.

Yeah, confidentiality is iffy. You have to assume some low-end DEA Information Gathering guy is following this blog.

All the more reason to stay legal, and post with discretion on this blog/forum, and now I'd better shutup before I become politically, loudly, outspoken.

Theft by police

There was a great post today about asset seizure by police and the need for political action to put a stop to this legalized theft.

Getting to know you

One of our members suggested putting up a post for people to introduce themselves.

This is a good idea and a topic of great interest to me, because one of the challenges of putting together Montana Patients and Families United as a working mutual support group, and as a political force (which is my hidden agenda) is getting to know everyone. Within, of course, the bounds of propriety and security.

So here's a thread for folks to reveal themselves to the extent they wish.

I'm particularly interested in patients, in terms of quantity desired and strains that are effective for their diagnoses, which means you might consider telling us your diagnosis...

And for caregivers, I'm really interested in knowing what strains you grow, what diagnoses your patients find these strains effective for, and how many patients you provide for.

And, then, you can let me know your thoughts regarding what breed of dog the Obamas should choose for their children to raise.

Or...anything else you want to talk about.

In short, this is a thread to give space for you to let us know what you might want to reveal about yourselves.

So here it is. Let's talk about therapeutic recipes and their effectiveness. I'd be particularly interested in a comparison of effectiveness for different diagnoses: Eaten v. inhaled.

Pricing the medicine

It seems like a good time to start a new thread since the "Tips for Growing" thread has introduced the concept of pricing. So, here we go. What's the cost of growing medicine? What's a fair price for patients? Should there be a sliding scale for patients based on ability to pay? Should caregiver operations be "non-profit" as is required in Oregon and by the new proposed California regulations? What does non-profit mean?

OK, here's a topic we need to be discussing. How many out there are experienced with vaporizers? We are aware of plenty of docs who will not recommend because they don't condone smoking anything. But they often will recommend if their patient owns a vaporizer.

What brands do you folks use?

I'm going to suggest a website that could change your life, or at the least cause you to plan a little road trip.

For Montana patients struggling to find a supply of medicine, this website could be a partial answer. And YES, if you are a registered medical marijuana patient in Montana, you can purchase medicine through the outlets discussed at this website. You have to show up with your credentials (card and identification) but you may be able to be pre-verified, by calling ahead.

You'll have to register to access this very important website, but that only takes a few moments. It takes a little more time to get a sense of how the site works but here's a clue: Click "Menus".

On physician referrals...

Several of the participants in this blog have asked the question, "How do I find a physician who will recommend medical marijuana for my condition?"

We (that is, the mysterious beings who created this blog) are not going to publish the names of Montana physicians who recommend. For one thing, we only know the names of a few recommending physicians. This information is not a matter of public record, after all.

We would prefer that patients contact other patients with the best information they have about physicians who might potentially recommend. We know that's a little difficult to do in a setting in which some participants choose to remain anonymous. But that's the best way to exchange information.

Alternative? Write to info@mtmjpatients.org. While we won't send you a physician's name, we will forward your inquiry to one of several patients (chosen based upon your diagnosis and geographic area, which hopefully you'll include in your email) who may be able to help.

Ideally, the best approach is to have your regular, treating physician make the recommendation. To accomplish that goal, we will soon have available an information packet for physicians that may help overcome their reluctance to recommend.

But if your physician won't recommend, send us an email. Someone will contact you with helpful information.

Deadline approaches for comments

Dear Friends of Montana Patients and Families United:

The Montana Pain and Symptom Management Task Force (created by Senate Joint Resolution 28, passed by the Montana Legislature in 2005) has produced a White Paper entitled "Recommendations for Improving Pain and Symptom Management in Montana.

While this publication is excellent in many ways, it makes no reference to Medical Marijuana or Montana's I-148 Medical Marijuana initiative.

Those of you who suffer from pain, or know someone who does, are likely aware that medical marijuana has been proven effective in controlling pain. In many cases, medical marijuana allows a patient to function in activities of daily living without resorting to stronger, possibly addictive medications.

Would it be possible for you to take a few moments to read the White Paper, available online HERE.

and then enter comments HERE.

One suggestion for appropriate comments might be to respond to Question 4: In your opinion what is missing from the White Paper?

If you feel the White Paper should recognize the usefulness of medical marijuana as an effective treatment modality for pain, submit such a suggestion.

The more responses, the more likely our concerns over the omission of medical marijuana will be recognized.

So, read the White Paper and if you feel a response is in order...RESPOND!
